What to pack for golf in Ireland

The short answer: layers, a real rain shell, and enough room in your bag for a few wet-weather golf days.

THE RIGHT MINDSET

Pack for four seasons—without packing your whole closet.

September in Southwest Ireland can deliver sun, wind, a passing shower, and a calm evening in the same day. That is not a problem if you bring pieces that layer easily and dry quickly.

You do not need to dress like an expedition. You just need to be ready to keep playing when the weather changes.

THE NON-NEGOTIABLES

• Waterproof golf shell

• Two pairs of shoes

• Extra gloves

• Light mid-layer

• Day bag for the coach

THE PACKING LIST

Bring the things that keep the day moving.

For the course
Waterproof jacket and pants, two gloves for wet days, a cap and beanie, a warm layer, rain cover, and shoes you trust. If you have room, a second pair of golf shoes is a very good idea.

For after golf
Comfortable walking shoes, a casual warm layer, and one dinner outfit that is easy rather than formal. Killarney rewards people who are ready to walk around after the round.

For travel days
Keep medication, a change of clothes, chargers, and a light rain layer in your carry-on. If a bag gets delayed, you can still start the trip comfortably.

Do not overreact to the forecast

Check it, of course—but do not let an early forecast tell you the story of the whole week. Irish conditions move. A well-layered golfer is usually happier than the one who packed only for a perfect day.
